Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Nuclear power is the "best solution" to the problem of greenhouse gas emissions, President George W. Bush said Thursday.

"If you are truly serious about dealing with greenhouse gases, it seems like you should be a strong supporter of nuclear power," he said at a White House press conference. "I certainly am, and applaud efforts by members of the congress to provide incentives for the construction of new plants."

"It is the best solution to making sure we have economic growth and at the same time be good stewards of the environment," he added.

Bush said he told Nobel peace laureate and former vice president Al Gore that he takes the issue of greenhouse emissions "seriously," Agence France-Press reported.

"If you're truly serious about dealing with greenhouse gases, then it seems like to me you ought to be a strong supporter of nuclear power. Nuclear power enables us to generate electricity without emitting one unit of greenhouse gases, Bush said

"I am amazed that our country isn't more robust in supporting the advent of nuclear power," he said.
